MONDAY EVENING CLUB NIGHT
Starts 7th April
Perfect for anyone wanting to start playing again or just want a friendly social
Non-members very welcome!
Welcome to the 2014 - 2015 season
With the new Tennis season fast approaching the committee thought it was worth reviewing
last season first. Firstly we hoped you enjoyed your tennis with us in 2013, which
saw the Committee introduce a couple of new social ideas. The Wimbledon draw evening,
the French Open evening and Wimbledon day were all well attended and enjoyed by the
members and visitors alike so hopefully we can improve and grow these events and
make these occasions more successful in the future. If any members could help with
these events in the future, volunteers are always appreciated.
2013 saw the first Haynes Cup in Memory of Stuart Haynes with the open day & matches
against Market Bosworth, which will continue to be part of the clubs calendar although
this year will be hosted by Market Bosworth. Stuart was an important part of the
teams at our club and he would have been greatly impressed by the performance of
the second team last season, which narrowly missed promotion on the result of their
The Monday Evening Social organised by Roy and Darren continues to be very successful,
probably too successful as often all the courts were full. The main reason for the
success of Monday was attracting new members who have returned to Tennis after a
break and or new to tennis. For this reason Monday nights sessions will continue
starting 7th April 2014, however we are planning more sessions for the more experienced
players to now move on to another day or night and create space for more new players
to start with us at thist session. One example being a fortnightly Thursday social
night, although we will be looking for volunteers to help run so if you are interested
let the committee know.
The number of players on the Club’s Coaching Programme provided by Inspire2 Coach
has remained steady and we have seen Ciara Haggarty join the coaching team who has
brought the club a new energy but 2014 is planned to be a big year for coaching at
the club. It will see more open days at the club to welcome new players and improved
links with local schools and roadshows to get the message out about Nuneaton’s only
tennis club, for more information visit their website www.inspire2coach.co.uk
Following the AGM our committee has lost a hard working club secretary in January
when Pam Haynes retired after 10 years of service to the club, although not agreed
at that meeting we welcome Ken Key to his new role as Club Secretary. The other new
faces on the committee are Roy Parker who accepted the role of Club Chairman (after
a year without this important position being filled), Colin Butler committee member
and Jarrad Brown takes on the responsibility of being the voice of the club’s Junior
Although not on the committee Mark Whitelegg has volunteered to take over the management
of the clubs website, which should see more regular updates and a new look. If any
member has any ideas or contributions they would like to make it will be welcome.
All members should be aware that your membership expires on 31st March and it is
important to renew as soon as possible. We have included the new membership form
so you can return your cheque payments to Liz as before, if you would like to pay
by cash James will be at the club on Fridays between 6-6.30pm. Paypal payments through
our website should be in place before the 1st April, but if the amount does not match
the new form please wait for our website to be updated.
Wimbledon Tickets 2014
The LTA will issue our Wimbledon Ticket allocation on 3rd March and in order to be
eligible for the ballot you need to be a member of the Tennis Club aged 9 years and
older and have an up to date British Tennis Membership so please check on www.lta.org.uk
that all your details, including your address and email address is up to date. As
payment and ticket delivery will be done by the LTA this year, the club will not
collect payment for tickets or handle the tickets. If you are lucky enough to come
out of the draw for a pair of tickets you will have only 14 days to make the online
payment to the LTA, there will be an additional £2.50 handling charge.
Watch out for more details of our Club’s Wimbledon draw in the coming month.
Good luck in the draw and the committee wish you an enjoyable 2014 Tennis season.
